Amador and Foothill Rivalry lives on!

Posted by Soccer - Girls at Jan 23, 2018 2:16PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Amador and Foothill High School girls soccer battled to the very end of this cold and exciting game. This Monday night, the Falcons showed up, pushing balls to their forwards and letting them run. Long balls followed those sporadic quick runs, and tested the AVHS defense and keeper when they penetrated. Amador was composed and methodical, testing their own patience with hitting the FHS goalpost and crossbar several times throughout the game, and many times holding the ball in the Foothill box to serve and reload shots.

In the first half, one of those long balls from Foothill did drop into the Don’s net- a lofty, high spinning ball-difficult to find for most keepers. And thereafter, a scrappy goal came during a collision on the goal line of FHS and AVHS players, which put FHS up 2-0. Amador held their composure with pressure, strung passes and team play against Foothill, for a good majority of the game.

Regardless of the score, Amador continued to pressure into the Falcons half, tho unsuccessfully, and defend the erratic advances of FHS wing and a quick moving forward. The game continued this way until finally one of Amador’s advances produced a back and forth, ping pong style, in the FHS box- which ultimately, after hitting the bar a few times, went in the net. Amador gets one; 2-1 now.

The second half provided much of the same battle. And given the emotional nature of the rivalry, the refs did their best to handle what came their way, but even they seemed erratic and like the game before them. It was just one of those nights. Down to the wire, calls made for physical play transpired, and free kicks sent balls into both sides penalty boxes, making the second half as exciting as the first. In the last few minutes, Amador pressured and had chances to secure another goal, and indeed at one point, AVHS keeper packed the FHS box with her teammates, for an effort to tie 2-2.

Tho this wouldn’t be the case; with AVHS pressuring all they had, FHS defender miraculous comes out of the crowd with the ball in the last 20 seconds, dribbles with AVHS chasing, past all players to push the ball into the unattended net of the Dons. The ending was how FHS started; a bit random in their style, but securing what was needed, no matter the method. Amador takes a 3-1 loss , but held their heads high, knowing a good game was played.

Dougherty game brings a rain and a WIN

Amador High School Girls Varsity Soccer team arrived to play today, beginning to end. On a rainy evening, Amador recoiled from their 1st loss on Tuesday to throw it out on Dougherty, in the rain. In the first half, Dougherty had little movement forward and struggled to handle control, particularly with the wet conditions.
Amador managed to put together team connections in the wind and drizzle, pushing DVHS toward their own goal. First half was much of that, with a bit of back and forth, with AVHS handling most of possession; even so, 0-0 was the half time score.

Second half was all Amador, until that is, the last 15 minutes, when Dougherty Valley stepped up their efforts to score. Prior to that, Amador had corner kicks, wall passes and shots of goal, converting one of those team connections and a long shot in the 17th and 22nd minute. Both keepers for Amador had some straight on Dougherty shots during both halves, and handled them confidently and solidly. Although DVHS had a corner kick and a shot wide toward our AVHS net in the last half , they failed to secure any goals.

Amador ends the game up 2-0, ramping up for several games next week.

Jan 16, Tuesday evening was a first for Amador Girls Soccer – a loss. From the beginning, Monte Vista demonstrated speed up front, and a passing skill set that continued throughout the game. Within 10 minutes, Monte Vista had 2 goals, and altho Amador played with strength, they defended on numerous occasions, and it seemed all-consuming. Monte Vista just kept coming, and fast. MV had several players who just simply out-paced Amador with speed.

Amador had some lighter moments with pressure flipped, as AVHS attacked, though were stalled with intercepted passes and the game came right back toward them. Keepers for Amador had their work cut out for them, as indicative from the first goal; far out beyond the box and a rocket to the backside netting.
In the last 10 minutes of the 1st half, AVHS pressured MV keeper with shots on goal, but they went wide.
MV retaliated with a quick dribbling thru AVHS defense on a fast break and Amador Keeper made a great physical diving save to keep this one out. The 1st half did end 4-0, MV.

Second half showed promise for Amador as sporadic possession threatened Monte Vista and Amador posed some shots on goal. It was more of the same play by MV but definitely a different attack for Amador, as they secured some shots on goal and pressured for corner kicks. None transferred into scores, but Dons never gave up and acquiesced. There was back and forth possession throughout the second half,
with Amador shots increasing on goal in the last few minutes.

Overall, Monte Vista was a speedy and controlled team, securing the win 6-0.
Amador looks forward to the next game Thursday Jan 18, to demonstrate their strengths and show their abilities against Dougherty Valley High School.

Lady Dons Varsity Soccer Ties SRV

It was a game that boiled down to which team was going to out work the other and secure the final minute goal!

San Ramon Valley came out versus Amador Valley at home Thursday night 1-10-18 controlling and pushing to score, right off the bat. Amador began a bit off balance, defending and using their athleticism to keep the passing SRV players at bay, though SRV slotted an outside-the-box firey shot past the AVHS keeper, making it 1-0. Each team sent substitutes into the game readily, looking to move the momentum of the game; which seemed back and forth much of the first half. An athletic game would end at half 1-1, with Amador securing passes to an awaiting midfielder, who shot and scored within the box, past the outstretched arms of SRV keep.

Second half brought much of the same- passing was hit and miss, and each team was physically working, although SRV still seemed a bit sharper. Amador picked up the pace, pushing passes around the back to maintain control, yet one short ball was intercepted and SRV scored. 2-1.

Amador and San Ramon Valley Players did not let up and battled- taking a few shots per team, executing penetrating passes by SRV, and Amador thwarting those and countering, pushing to goal as well. With minimal time left, Amador midfielders strung passes to each other and one was turned, hammered to goal, and found its way into the net. With less than 20 Seconds to go, it’s now 2-2!

On SRV kick off, Amador presses SRV and was fouled on a 50/50 ball at centerfield and 10 Seconds remained for a last ditch AVHS effort, but no luck. It remains a tied game, 2-2!
