This was a game was like no other – Amador Varsity Dons battled against James Logan for the entire length of play and came out the Victors; 3 to 2!

Amador came off several preseason games into the James Logan match finding themselves playing steadfast defense from the minute the whistle blew. James Logan forwards were a mix of tall and strong, and small and quick, which proved to be a battle for our defense throughout the game.

First half of the game was relatively even, with our opponent coming out strong and physical. Though Amador replied in their own way with good touch going forward and some attacking opportunities. This continued throughout the first half until five minutes prior to half time, the Dons capitalized on a goal that was well deserved after a long fight, back-and-forth, for dominance. James Logan seemed unnerved and as Amador assumed possession of the ball again, and again, as a team we put together strings of passes. The second goal came shortly after; a corner net headball, and just in the nick of time as the whistle blew a minute or so later.

Amador came out from halftime more confident with the 2-0 lead, though James Logan was surely not to take this sitting down. James Logan fans got in on the action, and seem to wear on the referees for the duration of the game. Our Opponents capitalized on that disruption and their offense secured a PK, to place the game 2-1. The battle ensued and defensively we continue to thwart the tall strong forwards, and kept at bay the shorter quick James Logan attackers. One-on-one battles were simply part of this game.
Soon, a secondary questionable placement of a foul near our box, put one more ball on the PK line for James Logan and it was converted- goal. It was now a tied game at 2 to 2.

Team Amador seemed determined to override the circumstances and fight with tenacity to the end. Many opportunities with good passing and then some unfortunate offsides calls continued to draw out the game. A few infrequent pushes by James Logan team kept our minds alert and we pushed back to provide many fleeting opportunities on goal. Finally, the James Logan defense was not consistently strong enough to stop the Amador team from gaining a goal in a great back-and-forth game. The final score for AVHS was secured in the last four minutes or so, and Amador comes out on top, In a very nailbiting and high-energy game. Dons win 3 to 2.
